Ice Cycle for the Hemispheres: Ice Thickness by Month Over the Last 40+ Years
By examining ice thickness data since 1960 and visualizing it by month, we can clearly identify the ice cycle for each hemisphere. March usually has the maximum ice extent in the Arctic while in February the Antarctic is at its minimum. September shows the opposite: the Antarctic is at its maximum and the Arctic is at its minimum. This visualization was achieved by placing the month of the date/time field as the column but not showing the year; that way, we could quickly see the overall monthly patterns.
