The Development Manager will drive technical projects and provide leadership for a rapidly growing group of 5-10 engineers in an innovative and fast-paced environment. The Manager will be responsible for the overall planning, scheduling, execution, and success of development projects that extend our Visual Analytics suite. The Manager needs to be a technical leader and an effective motivator who is comfortable leading a team of highly skilled Engineers. Initially, this position will not be a pure management position – the Development Manager will be expected to make significant technical contributions to the projects.

The Development Manager will be responsible for all aspects of planning, scheduling, design, and execution on the development of major features. The Manager must be able to work closely with product management and senior executives on the planning of releases, to work with QA staff to resolve issues during test and maintenance and to interact directly with customers as needed during all phases of development. The Manager will also be expected to contribute technically to the product, designing and developing significant new functionality in the application when needed.

Responsibilities

• Work with product management, other leads, and the VP of Engineering on the contents of product releases
• Plan strategy for achieving desired release requirements using given resources
• Lead the development team to successfully fulfill the identified requirements for a release to a defined timeline and budget
• Author and maintain project schedule
• Author requirements and design documents for major features
• Participate in review all requirements and design documents
• Actively triage bugs and support issues
• Grow and manage a team of innovative and senior software engineers
• Occasional travel may be required

Experience

• Proven track record shipping successful software to customer is a must
• 5+ years experience managing large (10+), fast-paced and dynamic engineering teams
• High level of technical competence and a solid track record of coding and individual technical achievements.
• Strong project-management skills
• Willingness and ability to dive-in and get involved technically in resolving customer issues, performing design and code reviews, and doing hands-on development when needed
• Highly organized with the ability to take on multiple simultaneous projects in a fast paced, flexible work environment
• Strong teamwork ethic with the ability to work cross-functionally with members of the Development, Product Management, QA, Support, and Sales teams
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Prior startup experience is a plus

Qualifications

• BSCS or equivalent
• 5+ years C++ experience on the Microsoft Windows platform
• 5+ years experience managing large (15+), fast-paced and dynamic engineering teams
• Knowledge of best practices and tools for effective software development
